Ian Wilson

Welcome to Caila Bloodstock

Caila Bloodstock was founded by Ian Wilson in March 2024. Ian has been passionate about horse racing since finishing school in 2013. Over the past two years, Ian has had the opportunity to participate in internship programs such as The National Stud diploma program, with Freeman Stallions, and the Kentucky Equine Management Internship program. His keen interests in the Thoroughbred industry have always been with Pedigrees and Stallions. The process of matching two superior champion athletes analysing their Pedigrees, Race Records, Stud Records, and Conformation with the intention of producing a future champion has always fascinated him.

The English National Stud Diploma course provided Ian with knowledge of Europe's prominant sire lines through lectures from industry professionals, through research assignments of choosing hypothetical matings, and understanding the success of classic horses through their pedigrees and why their breeding is superior.

Ian's internship at Freeman Stallions furthered his knowledge on pedigrees through learning about different line breeding, inbreeding, and superior female lines. Participating further in hypothetical matings helps to identify current and new AA+ or 20/20 matings.

Participating in the Kentucky Equine Management Internship program expanded Ian's international knowledge of pedigrees further by learning the American bloodlines. He also enjoys analysing a horse's pedigrees  and determining their success as a racehorse, stallion, or broodmare and which bloodlines crossed together have yielded the most success.

Mission

Our mission is to provide viewers with the latest pedigree news on modern racehorses, as well as valuable insights into the breeding trends of the best racehorses. This is done through analysing different pedigrees of Grade 1 performers and producers, and showing how the success of different male lines and female lines when crossed together. This will offer knowledge and information to breeders and the racing public on choosing suitable stallions for their broodmares based on previous successful matings of previous racehorses of similar bloodlines who have achieved or produced at the highest level in racing.

Vision

To create and promote awareness to racing fans and viewers on the latest pedigree trends that are producing Group 1 winning offspring. The goal for breeding is to constantly upgrade a horse's pedigree and this can be done by observing the pedigrees of the most successful racing jurisdictions across the globe and try to replicate a champion like themselves in another country. Through this, the intention is to attract new bloodlines to import them into smaller, but successful racing jurisdictions such as South Africa.
